FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE ORGANIZATIONS

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC):

The national group of the 9 historically African American fraternities (5) and sororities (4) in North America and beyond. The umbrella and governing organization at the University of Pittsburgh for the historically African-American fraternities and sororities at the University of Pittsburgh. 6 of the 9 organizations have active chapters at the University of Pittsburgh. Collegiate Panhellenic Association (Panhel):

The umbrella and governing organization for National Panhellenic Conference or other non-honorary sororities at the University of Pittsburgh. Panhel currently governs 14 sorority chapters at the University of Pittsburgh. More information about Panhel can be found here

Tri-Council:

The word used to refer to IFC, NPHC, and Panhel all together. All three councils strive to promote unity among themselves through joint events and cooperative programs. 

Order of Omega:

“Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for members of Fraternity & Sorority organizations. Order of Omega recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and within the Fraternity/Sorority, campus, and local community. Members share the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.” More information about Order of Omega can be found here

Gamma Sigma Alpha:

“Gamma Sigma Alpha is a National Academic Greek Honor society recognizing Fraternity and Sorority upperclassmen who perform exceptionally at academics.” More information about Gamma Sigma Alpha can be found here

Relevant University Departments

Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL):

The University Department that oversees all social fraternities and sororities at Pitt. The OFSL can be found on the 6th floor of the WPU

Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development (CCLD):

“The Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development was established in 2007 with the vision of cultivating transformational leaders who positively impact the campus, the community, and the greater society for the 21st century and beyond. The OFSL is one of the many branches within CCLD. CCLD is a place where all students, particularly underrepresented groups of students, can seek support and guidance as they navigate their inside- and outside-of-the-classroom experiences at Pitt.” All CCLD Organizations can be found on the 6th floor of the WPU. Student Organization Resource Center (SORC):

Pronounced “Source”. Student organizations play a major role at Pitt and in the Pittsburgh Community. SORC ensure that 600+ student organizations, including all FSL organizations and councils, have the support they need to operate at the highest level. SORC is located in 833 WPU and is the hub for registered student organizations on campus. SORC helps with all things from finances to general management advice. More information about SORC can be found on their website
