IFC FIELD DAY

What is IFC Field Day?

IFC Field Day is a fundraiser created by the IFC Board. Field Day consists of multiple events including Relay Races, Spikeball, Sharks and Minnows, Tug-O-War, and more. Overall, IFC Field Day creates healthy competitions between chapters, across councils, and between different communities at Pitt. Some of the events match chapters and teams directly against each other, while others pair chapters and teams together to build Tri-Council Unity. Each chapter and team is asked to send 10 individuals to compete at IFC Field Day. In the end, the chapter or team with the most points receive a donation to a charity of their choosing. Field Day is still a relatively new event but the IFC Board is working tirelessly to turn it into a large-scale fundraiser with a large turnout from Tri-Council chapters and other University organizations. If you have any ideas or feedback about IFC Field day, please email the IFC Programming Chair.

In 2019, IFC Field Day raised over $1600 for the Movember Foundation, which raises awareness for men’s health issues. In addition, IFC made donations to the following charities on behalf of the chapters and teams that placed at the event:

  • The Make-A-Wish Foundation (On Behalf of Chi Omega who got first)
  • PALS Programs for Down Syndrome (On behalf of Alpha Tau Omega who got second)
  • UNSURE (On behalf of NPHC who had members of multiple chapters compete together on one team and tied for third)
  • United Service Organizations (On behalf of Fiji who tied for third)

Why was IFC Field Day Started and what does the Future Hold?

In 2018, the entire FSL community was examined by a team of consultants in order to evaluate and improve the community as a whole (More information about the consultants research and finding can be found on the FSL ACTION PLAN page). The consultants advised IFC to expand its philanthropic efforts and increase the number of planned yearly programs. Ultimately, this suggestion led the IFC Board to create IFC Field Day. After a great deal of planning and many long nights, the first IFC Field Day occurred in October of 2019. The event did not go 100% according to plan, but it ended up being a great time for all, and a great deal of funds were raised for some great causes.

The first Field Day was a great starting point for an event that will hopefully grow within the coming years. IFC Board is already planning the next Field Day based on all of the feedback received from the first Field Day, however, we are always looking for more. Again, if you have any suggestions or questions, please send them to the IFC Programming Chair.
