COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PHILANTHROPY

How do Chapters Give Back?

Every FSL chapter has their own charity or foundation that they raise donations for. Each IFC chapters’s philanthropy organization can be found here. Throughout the year, each chapter hosts multiple events to raise money for their charities. IFC is so dedicated to giving back that there is a least one chapter philanthropy or community service every week of the school year. On top of individual events, chapters often co-host events with other fraternities, sororities, and student organizations, which is highly encouraged by Tri-Council and OFSL. Co-hosting events is a great way to promote inter-fraternalism and Tri-Council Unity.

Starting in Spring 2020, IFC is offering grant to all IFC chapters that co-host philanthropy events with other IFC chapter. This grant can come in the form of a donation, funds for supplies, or actual supplies. For more information, email the IFC Treasurer.

What Volunteering Opportunities does IFC Undertake as a whole?

Throughout the school year, Pittserves hosts four signature days of service, with two occurring each semester. Typically, student volunteers attend the days of service with a group, which makes them a great way for fraternities and sororities to give back. The largest day of service is Pitt Make a Difference Day (PMADD), which draws over 3500 student volunteers each year. Almost every chapter from IFC, NPHC, and Panhel participated in PMADD 2020, and we are confident that the number of volunteers from the FSL community will continue to grow. More information on the signature days of service can be found here.

Are there any Additional Resources for Finding or Creating Volunteering Opportunities?

Yes, there are many. Pittserves runs a site that allows you to find volunteering opportunities, find local nonprofits, track service hours, and much more. Pittserves also offers DIY service project resources and project grants which can be found here.
