At the University of Pittsburgh, there are 3 governing bodies of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL). Together these organizations are known as the Tri-Council. The Tri-Council consists of the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Collegiate Panhellinic Association (Panhel). IFC is the governing body of 19 fraternities. 18 of the Fraternities are social fraternities, while 1 is a multi-cultural Fraternity. The IFC Board consists of 9 elected executives, 1 of which also serves on the Greek Week Board. During the school year, IFC hosts bi-weekly general body meetings, which are attended by the IFC Board, all 19 Chapter Presidents, and an additional Representative from each chapter. Some of the responsibilities of IFC include running general body meetings, overseeing recruitment, assisting new member education, organizing philanthropy and programming events, aiding the other Tri-Council Boards, and facilitating communication between Fraternities and the University.
